In January 2007, two Polish universities - the University of Warsaw and the University of Wroclaw - established together a new research unit, representing Poland in ERCIM that coordinates European research in information technology and applied mathematics. ERCIM stands for European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics of leading research institutions from 20 European countries. ERCIM has one member institute per country. Poland is represented by PLERCIM - institute established by above mentioned universities.
PLERCIM aim as a national contact point is to foster collaborative work within the European research community and to represent Polish academic societies at the international fields as well as to give access to all the benefits to other Polish universities and industry due to ERCIM membership.
Consortium encourages the European researchers to mobility. Allan Bensoussan Fellowship Programme addresses to young PhDs student and post-docs gives the opportunity to work with best scientists all over the Europe and the annual Cor Baayen Award for the most promising young researcher from an ERCIM country as well as sponsorship of conferences and workshops are now widely open to Polish researchers.
